Send light around corners
Each green block holds angled flat mirrors. Join the blocks into a path, look into one end, and a picture at the far end appears, even when the path turns left, right, up or down. Rearrange the blocks to design new mazes and predict where the light will travel before you look.
Science it demonstrates
- Light travels in straight lines
- The law of reflection: the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection
- Plane mirrors: how a mirror set at 45° turns a beam of light through 90°
- Light paths: the same idea is used in periscopes and some telescopes
What you'll do
- Fix the mirrors into the blocks with the double-sided foam pads
- Decorate the blocks with the picture stickers
- Join the blocks into straight, L-shaped and three-dimensional paths, put the picture card at one end and look in from the other
- Design your own maze and trace the light path from end to end

Good to know
- Handle the mirrors with care and keep them clean for the clearest view.
