Lift more with less force
This kit builds a small crane tower on a base, with a fixed pulley at the top and a movable pulley on the load. Hang the weight, pull through the spring scale and read the force needed; then change the rope arrangement and compare. You'll see that a movable pulley halves the pull but doubles the rope you have to pull.
