What is it?

A compact TCA8418 matrix keypad module with a 4x4 tactile-button layout and I2C interface. It uses the TCA8418 keypad scanner / GPIO expansion controller, making it useful for Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi Pico, STM32, and other embedded projects that need a small numeric/function keypad without consuming many MCU pins.

Why did you make it?

Many projects need more buttons than the main controller can easily spare GPIOs for. This board lets a host MCU read a 16-key keypad through I2C, while the TCA8418 handles key scanning, debounce, event buffering, and interrupt signaling.

What makes it special?

The TCA8418 supports 1.65V to 3.6V operation, 18 GPIO lines, up to 80 keys, I2C Fast-mode Plus up to 1MHz, a 10-byte FIFO for key press/release events, open-drain active-low interrupt output, and integrated ESD protection. The board measures about 76mm x 60mm and includes a 4-pin adapter cable.
