Telescope Kit – DIY Four-Lens Refracting Telescope, Optics STEM Model

Build a working telescope from tubes and four lenses, then slide it out to focus on distant objects and see how lenses magnify.

Designed by Mematrix Lab

Description

See far away with a telescope you built

This kit builds a simple refracting telescope. Kids fit four lenses, the light stops and the end caps into the blue objective tube and the yellow eyepiece tube, then slide the eyepiece in and out to bring distant trees, buildings or the Moon into focus. Fully extended it is about 26 cm long and closes to about 17 cm.

Science it demonstrates

  • Refraction: how light bends when it passes through a convex lens
  • Focal length: why the eyepiece has to be moved to get a sharp image
  • Objective and eyepiece: how one lens forms an image and the next magnifies it
  • Stops and hoods: how blocking stray light makes the image clearer

What you'll do

  • Fit the lenses and light stops into the inner tubes
  • Assemble the objective tube with its front cap and lens hood
  • Slide the eyepiece tube into the objective tube and fit the rear cap
  • Look at objects near and far and slide the eyepiece to focus

Parts list

  • Blue objective tube and yellow eyepiece tube
  • Two inner tube halves, front cap, rear cap, lens hood and friction ring
  • Four lenses (28, 16, 14 and 12 mm) and three light stops

Good to know

  • Never look at the Sun through the telescope.
  • The box carries the maker's logo with small Chinese characters.
  • Contains small parts. Recommended for ages 8 and up, with adult guidance.

Items that contain batteries or magnets are marked on their product page and ship by a special carrier line; some countries and regions cannot be reached by that line, and if yours is one of them we refund the order in full.
