Make electricity with your own hands
This kit turns a small motor, a gear train and a crank handle into a working generator. Kids fit the motor into the base, assemble the gears under the clear cover, wire the bulb panel and attach the handle. Turn the crank and the bulb lights up; turn faster and it glows brighter. The terminals on the panel can also send the current to other small experiments, such as a simple electric motor.

- Electromagnetic induction: how turning a coil in a magnetic field produces an electric current
- Energy conversion: mechanical energy from your hand becomes electrical energy, then light
- Gear ratios: how the gear train makes the motor spin much faster than the handle

What you'll do
- Mount the motor and wiring in the base
- Fit the gears and the clear gear cover
- Attach the bulb panel and the crank handle
- Turn the handle, watch the bulb, and compare slow and fast turning
